Lotus Europa S1: Sometimes It’s Not as Bad as It Looks
I got lucky with the chassis! Once all the surface rust was removed, it appeared to be in better shape than I expected! It took me a couple of nights with a wire brush on an anglegrinder, but I managed to get the heavy rust off the chassis to be able to inspect the condition.
I was already thinking about having to buy a brand new Lotus chassis, luckily my old one can be repaired! If I had to buy a new one, It wouldn’t be possible to make some serious progress on the car during the summer due to lack of funds.
Once my exams are finished, I will be buying a welder to repair and strengthen the chassis and to fabricate some other parts. At the moment I’m making lists of parts that need to be ordered so I will be able to start building the chassis back up during the summer.
The front T-section is the worst part of the chassis, the metal will need replacing, but the geometry appears to be OK. I have build plans of the chassis, so I will be able to fabricate the parts that are completely gone.
Enjoy & Share!
